Highly-Acclaimed Documentary Film Celebrates
Burning Man’s Art and Remarkable Sense of Community

San Francisco, California (September 13, 2006) – San Francisco-based film distributor, Windline Films, LLC and Hotbed Media, the entertainment and production company focused on rich and multi-sensory storytelling, are proud to announce the DVD release of Confessions of a Burning Man.

A visual and auditory journey, Confessions of a Burning Man is a feature-length documentary/art film that follows four first-timers—Anna Getty, Michael Winaker, Samantha Weaver and Kevin Epps—as they experience Burning Man, the week-long art pilgrimage event held annually in the scorching Black Rock Desert of Nevada. Their personal journeys are windows into the heart of Black Rock City, a virtual metropolis built each year by over 30,000 people in their quest to explore the edges of human creativity and experience, irrespective of economic class, race or nationality. With stories captured in 2001 and 2002 by an international team of filmmakers on over 100 hours of film and video footage, Confessions of a Burning Man is a unique contemporary spiritual quest set in an epic desert location.  The score of Confessions of a Burning Man was produced and written by Graham Shrimpton a/k/a Darkhorse of Three Sixty Records in San Francisco.

In the spirit of the festival, Windline Films, in conjunction with TerraPass has established Confessions of a Burning Man as the first film ever to fully account for the atmospheric carbon imprint of its DVD release with TerraPass’ programs for environmental responsibility.

Featuring over one hour of bonus footage, the DVD includes director’s audio commentary with Paul Barnett and Unsu Lee, along with editor Robbie Proctor and featuring David Silverman (Director, The Simpsons, Monsters, Inc.).

As described by online film reviewer Chris Garcia, “Confessions of a Burning Man may be the most effective of its type that I have come across and made me actually understand why people attend Burning Man. A beautiful piece of filmmaking that runs like a dust devil across the playa, it brings the story and importance of Burning Man to light.”

Confessions of a Burning Man celebrates Burning Man’s art, music and remarkable sense of community. The film is lyrically interwoven with the profound philosophies of Burning Man founder Larry Harvey and artist David Best.

“Anyone curious about Burning Man should see this film,” said Marian Goodell, Burning Man’s communications manager. “There’s been a lot of distortion of what goes on at Burning Man, and this film returns to the core values. Magnificent art installations are found there and people learn important things about themselves within that environment.”

This film inspires and entertains both the Burning Man curious and dedicated followers of the festival alike. The beautifully packaged DVD recalls the annual event with a replicated Burning Man ticket and map of Black Rock City. “With its elegant graphics, and eight-camera shooting plan, Confessions of a Burning Man is simply the best documentary to date about Burning Man, the most artistically audacious, outrageously liberated gathering of humans and dust on the face of this earth. What better way to discover Burning Man than through the eyes of four carefully selected virgin Burners who have little more in common than their curiosity and determination to survive the week? The extras alone are worth the price of admission.”
-Mark Achbar, director: The Corporation

“Brings the experience of Burning Man to its audience, evoking not only the heat,
dust, and fatigue, but the sheer awe of its enormousness and generosity of spirit.”

-LA Times

“Inspiring? Yes. Entertaining? Absolutely”
-San Francisco Examiner
